Grasmere
Gazey Architects were commissioned to undertake this 180sqm refurbishment, extension and internal adaptation of a large detached property in Marlborough, Wiltshire.
The brief was to increase the floor area of this two-bedroom property to provide an additional two bedrooms while extending the ground floor living areas to create an open-plan kitchen, dining and living space.
The idea was to sensitively enlarge the existing property with a two-storey side extension and a single-storey rear extension while enhancing the poorly-lit internal spaces by creating large external openings.
The single-storey rear extension includes a full-width sliding door opening with a level threshold to the new raised garden terrace to strengthen the relationship between the house and the garden while providing a more useable kitchen, dining and living space.
Fixed roof glazing and four new openable rooflights to the pre-weathered standing-seam zinc-clad rear extension will provide much-needed natural daylight to the internalised existing internal spaces.
